VIJAYAWADA: The NTR district administration is on alert after receiving complaints about the alleged sale of plots sanctioned to the poor at Jagananna Colonies in Vijayawada. Despite guidelines against the sale of plots, around 190 beneficiaries have already sold their plots through agreements on stamp papers.

The government had sanctioned 7,500 houses at Nunna housing layout, of which 3,000 are under construction. However, the hike in construction material prompted some beneficiaries to sell their plots.

The colonies draw a steady stream of buyers on weekends. Middlemen, taking advantage of the situation, are entering into agreements with sellers at 1.2 lakh per cent. Buyers are entering into agreements on the site, which is void as per the terms framed by the government.

The housing wing in NTR district has started identifying the beneficiaries who have sold their plots. “Thirty-eight plots were sold at Nunna layout and sites at Madduru layout are in high demand. We are initiating strict action and have erected banners in colonies,” said a senior official in the housing wing.

District collector S Dilli Rao directed officials to act against middlemen and buyers who are entering into such agreements.
