Ahmedabad civic body seals 127 units in three commercial buildings
AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) sealed 127 units in three commercial buildings for non-compliance with fire safety norms. These units are in Cambay Hotel in Thaltej, Pushpak Tower in Shahpur and Trade Square in Maninagar.
Officials said that despite multiple notices and reminders, the property owners failed to renew their fire safety no objection certificates (NOC). The official said that around 1,000 highrises are yet to renew their fire NOCs despite many notices.
Starting June 19, the civic body began issuing notices to the managements of buildings that were yet to renew their fire NOCs. An AFES official said that if these buildings fail to comply with rules, then strict action will be taken against them under various provisions of Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act 2013. The official added that these places are visited by large number of people and the property owners cannot play with their lives.
It must be mentioned that eight patients had lost their lives after a major fire broke out at Shrey Hospital in Navrangpura on August 6, 2020.
