Remove violations in Sector 41 houses by Aug 31, says Chandigarh housing board

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will be giving a month’s time to allottees of the Sector 41 CHB duplex houses to remove illegal constructions before starting a demolition drive after August 31.

The decision was taken in a CHB meeting chaired by its chairman-cum-UT adviser Dharam Pal on Tuesday.

“The CHB had planned a demolition drive in June. But after allottees approached the Punjab and Haryana high court, an interim stay was given on it. On Monday, the interim stay was vacated. So, the CHB can now demolish the illegal constructions even from Wednesday, but during the meeting, it was decided that the allottees should be given a month’s time to remove them on their own,” said an official.

There are around 600 houses under the category. The CHB had issued final demolition notices to many of these in the first week of September last year. On September 23, 2022, it issued a public notice to the allottees directing them to remove the building violations or face demolition or even cancellation of the allotment.
