Whitefield locals are troubled by unauthorised PG accommodations leading to street disturbances, including late-night loitering, noisy gatherings, and disruptive celebrations. Despite multiple complaints to authorities, the problem persists. Locals report that the regular nuisance of late-night loitering by PG occupants, illegal street vendors, and unlicensed restaurants operating well into the night is widespread, disrupting residential areas.

“City administration shows complete disregard for law and order. BBMP’s failure to enforce regulations is at the root of the issue. Illegal construction of PG accommodations goes unchecked, leading to the proliferation of slum-like conditions. Illegal businesses thrive without consequence, despite court orders and public outcry. Once peaceful neighborhoods are now plagued by disturbances, transforming into undesirable slums.” said Sandeep Anirudhan Convenor of Citizens’ Agenda for Bengaluru.

He expressed sympathy for those residing in PG ‘slums’, noting their dire living conditions due to cramped construction, leading to a lack of ventilation and light. This discomfort forces inhabitants to spend their time outdoors, contributing to the late-night loitering issue. He further mentioned that the occupants of PG ‘slums’ gather in groups in well-organised residential areas, engaging in disruptive behaviours such as loitering on footpaths, playing games, celebrating birthdays, consuming alcohol in public, engaging in public displays of affection, and littering, resulting in ongoing issues.
