Visakhapatnam: Delay in MIG plot lottery irks applicants

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is developing several MIG (middle income group) layouts in different parts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli districts.

The applicants have to pay 10% of the total plot cost, which translates to ₹1 to 3.5 lakh depending on plot size and location, with the application itself.

As the lottery has not been conducted in the last eight months for allocation of these plots, the applicants are in a dilemma whether to opt for private plots or wait for these.

For instance, a lottery was held for allocation of plots in Palavalasa layout in January. The VMRDA received several new applications thereafter. But the wait still continues for the applicants even after eight months.

As the applicants have paid over ₹2 lakh as advance (even for a 150 square yard plot in this Palavalasa layout), they could not go for a private venture.

VMRDA officials said that a lottery would be conducted only if there are a sufficient number of applications for a particular layout.
