PANCHKULA: Nearly a month after Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced that one marla plot or land would be given to slum dwellers in the city to free the city of slums, Huda (Haryana Urban Development Authority) has identified two spots for the rehabilitation project. The authority plans to give one plot each to the slum dwellers so that they can make their homes.

Huda chief administrator Ajit Balaji Joshi told speaker Gupta that the authority was working on the project seriously and had identified two pieces of land, including 40-acre land at Khark Mangoli village and 20 acres in Sector 20.

The plan has been shared with the speaker and will also be shared with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. If Huda gets approval from the CM, work will be started. Speaker Gupta said, “Rehabilitation of slum dwellers of Panchkula is my priority. Officers concerned had been given directions to work in this regard and a plan will be presented to the CM for approval.”

On May 15, Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced that a plan to give one marla plot or flat to people living in slums and shanties was under consideration. Gupta held a meeting with senior officials of the Haryana government, including chief principal secretary to the chief minister D S Dhesi and Huda chief administrator Ajit Balaji Joshi at MLA hostel, Sector 3 to discuss a practical plan for rehabilitation of slum dwellers. After discussing several modules, the possibility of removing slums and giving each a one marla plot was finalised.

During the meeting, the provision of benefit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the needy was considered. The speaker pointed out that hundreds of slums were coming up in the city every day and asked the district administration, Huda and MC officials to take strict action in this regard.
